Spark - Mosaic Fireplace Surround

Fireplace Surround Photo Gallery | Slideshow

The Glimpse Series has graduated from art boards to an architectural installation as a fireplace surround, lending a modern sensibility to a Victorian rehab by the architectural firm of Soucie Horner. The fireplace is a focal point of a child's bedroom. Playfully tying form to the fireplace's original function, flow's curves take on "sparks" of iridescent red and orange glass.

Fizz

Fizz is a new series of ungrouted contemporary mosaics. Much as Heather loves grout, there's always a slight sense of loss when the shimmering vitreous glass tessarae get encased in cement. This series lets light shine through from all sides of the translucent and opalescent tile, and plays the tiles' colors against vibrant backdrops.

Emblems

Emblems are in the same vein as the Flow Series. Measuring only 8" x 8", they are smaller tokens of a bigger representation of a larger whole. Drawn from previous and new patterns, they play more freely with color across a broader palette than the larger works. The pieces lend themselves to random juxtaposition, creating more dynamic tensions than the continuous threads of the other multi-panel pieces.

All Emblems are Italian glass tile with ceramic and hardware detail 8" x 8" x 1" and ready to hang.

Beneath the Surface - Juried Exhibition

Trace been accepted to the Society of American Mosaic Artist's 2006 exhibition. This year's theme is "Beneath the Surface". Flow 2 is also on display in the Pieces of Life - American Mosaic Project (AMP) show, also at the High Risk Gallery.
